The Postcard nowhere is a part of the long-term Letter to mom project, which explores the stories of individuals forced to flee their homes due to political persecution or war. The cycle explores the practice of recovering a lost sense of home in a new place. The artist asked Belarusians in exile to take pictures of places that remind them home or evokes feelings of safety and kinship. Based on these photographs, she created monochrome postcards with the text ‘I can choose any road except the road home,’ a quote from an interview taken in the first cycle of the project. The handwritten phrase is repeated in the language of each participant’s new country of residence. Taking the form of a postcard – an object associated with travel and nostalgia – the works reimagine the souvenir as a means for reflecting on migration, memory, and the complexities of belonging.
