Do you belong somewhere?, 2025

participatory residency project, embroidery, drawing, printed postcards

This project was developed as part of the OASis Residency, a community-based artistic programme at the Bethlen Theatre renovated café.The work explores questions of belonging in public space. Cultural workers, neighbours, and other participants were invited to respond to the questions:

What makes you feel welcome?

What invites you to return?

What flavour feels like home?

Responses were gathered on the recycled textile installation (in collaboration with Ádám Ellenbacher). In a performative action the artist collected answers on the costume, which later became a part of the installation. Selected words and quotes were embroidered onto former café chairs and transformed into calligram postcards. Through these shared gestures, the space began to ask questions, gather the wishes of its future visitors, and shape its own emerging identity.
